Metallurgist

In the old part of town there are many small workshops and businesses dealing in traditional skills such as metalwork, bookbinding, gilding and of course jewelery. It would be nice if this was a jewelers materials, but it's a metalworkers yard

Early shift

Z and Gesa reminded me that yesterdays photo subject had appeared before. Which in turn reminded me that I have boxes full of images shot around here - here's another one, with the same supporting cast.

Fly posting

travaux acrobatique

Like many things, the French have a nice glamorous phrase for this - travaux acrobatique. Normally this means big mens work like building bridges and dangerous tree surgery, however in this case it's just so advertisers can pander to our desires. I always wondered how they got these giant posters in place.

In Zurich it's made more difficult as you can see because they have to cut the hanging around all the overhead tram line and lighting supports

Tapezierer

Upholsterers, Schipfe, Zurich

Still in Schipfe. I mentioned somewhere that it was home to various artisan studios. This is one of them. Tapezierer is "Upholsterer" but the workshop is also an Aladdins cave of various bric-a-brac.

Must be very satisfying to be based in this location, and spend your time with real things like old furniture and bits of wood

Züri Nord

Zurich nord

I realised that you could throw a napkin over the locations of my images from these first two weeks. virtually all in the old town centre. Here's one from the up and coming area of Zürich Nord - a mixture of industry, sport and entertainment venues. A lot of development going on here, I suspect I'll be posting a few of images from here as things progress. (This was taken before the snows arrived)
