Musée Rodin

Back in Zurich now but still feeding off Paris photos. The Rodin museum, installed in his former studio and surrounding garden is light and airy and worth a visit, although personally I can never see what the fuss is about Rodin. His sculptures for me exhibit none of qualities I expect from a great artist. There is no depth or power or grace or pathos or indeed just beauty of form. I get irritated by the incessant lumpiness which just seems to be there for it's own sake. "The Thinker" and "The Kiss" are difficult to approach objectively because of their familiarity, but I feel that even these are just gestural, rather than anything deeper, and I couldn't live with them on a regular basis. They would be consigned to the attic. Maybe I need someone to explain it all to me. I make a bit of an exception for the Balzac pieces which do seem to capture something beyond the mere form

Yeah - but, he had a really impressive beard.

I thought I should offer you a small Rodin sculpture to thank you for all help and advice you have given (and will give) me, but if you are not interested! :-)
PersonallyI have a preference for some of his clay work, often with an unfinished aspect! (The Camille Claudel exposition was not back from Spain where it has been for a while?)

I've never been to the Rodin museum, I've seen a few of his pieces here and there in other exhibitions but wasn't overly impressed. There's a fun pic to be made of the back of the Thinker as seen from the street when you arrive at the Rodin museum.

But I won't blame Rodin, he gave you a chance to take this fantastic pic!
That finger in that setting with that light! I only wish the lady under the statue's arm had moved out of the way, she kind of spoils the scenery.

nathalie - the woman was sitting down as I saw the shot, looking to her right, but just as I framed it and pressed the shutter she stood up. C'est la vie

As Rodin said 'Art is but a feeling'

Couldn't you double it?
I often do that now that I'm working with digital...

Nathalie - do you mean combine two exposures? I only got the one - this one. (And of course I'm a bit of a purist you know...)

Rodin is my favorite of all time. Creative, beautiful sculptures that make the viewer want to look all around it. Works that are difficult to take your eyes off.
