The Day The Earth Stood Still

I've been meaning to do a regular series on Swiss advertising, which I find quite interesting for various reasons. Mostly it's quite fun. The following is a recent example (apologies for the poor scan from a newspaper).

Using the film promo as an ad spoof is not a new idea, but this has a little twist for me that says something about Switzerland. The event being advertised is the big timetable change that occurs every year. Often it doesn't mean many big changes, but in a country where public transport is an integral part of life, even small timetable changes have to be taken seriously. I know many times and connections by heart for example (sad bastard I hear you say).

So what is this? Self mocking or just trying to inject some fun into a regular ritual?

Yay, this is GRAND!
Definitely worth a post I'd say!

I LOVED your snow photos, the snow-covered bike of course but also the ones where the snow storm provides movement and dynamics in the photo

I meant the opening one and the third and fifth.
The inside the coffee shop one works well also because it is complemented by the outdoor ones. It conveys a wonderful sense of warmth and protection against the elements. But I don't think it alone would be enough to give a true idea of what it's like outside.

I really LOVE this series.

Well, of course it is a bit of both. It was never true that "the Germans" and especially the Swiss (!) have no sense of humour, but I feel that over the last 40 years it may have been allowed to develop and re-establish itself after a few years of necessary penance. The Germanic Tribes are well aware of their slavish worship of the precision time piece, and they also know quite well that it is one of their great strengths that cannot be overvalued. This poster sums it all up very well......have a huge laugh and be quietly proud of what you are.
