Snow in Zurich

It's been snowing in Zurich. These photos were shot in the early morning a couple of days ago.

Zurich doesn't get a lot of snow, maybe 3 or 4 days a year of heavy fall, and it doesn't last for long. Nothing like some other cities in the world, but what is more important is that it means snow in the mountains for skiing

Excellent! I'm around Chamonix next week, although quite low (1,000m) - I'd been worried it was too low for Christmas. Looks like we've got lucky.

I like the image of the push-bike. The warmth inside the cafe complements the appearance of the bike.

No need to be "long" just now...but it's been interesting to note which images caused most reaction. As Cergie said acouple of days ago...the worst is when a handsome photo leaves no reation. Something in the last one, for me....perhaps???

Chucker - I'm with you on all this, basically. I find it interesting that some people expect there to be a "true" reading of a photo. But if you stick 2 or 3 people in front of the same scene they will all have different reactions. How much does the photographer mediate?

Anyway - these are just some quick shots to illustrate the day. My favourite is number 1 - don't ask me why! Or maybe it's number 3..... The last one is ok too, but I should really correct the horizon

1 & 3 I can guess why, (I enjoyed 1 very much) but really, I felt very comfortable with the last one. Something about it is very familiar....yes, you're right it IS the horizon.......I knew I was on firm home ground. ;-) The dog recognises its master, even when he's far, far away. Now did I ever tell you about when I was flying a mission, and got into severe trouble............

Richard, the photos are so good, you know, I'm happy to admit your constant progress in shooting the city life. I really adore your style.

Hormis pour la dernière photo on peut dire : la brume, la neige OK mais il faut aussi la lumière, même si elle est artificielle. Une très très belle série.

Cergie - yes, the last photo is the odd-man-out. I prefer the effect of the light with the street lamps and the snow

Time wasting...but just had to come back and re-live these. It's a "naughty/teasing" posting.............totally inconsequential, but how nicely they hang together, and how wickedly organised....the tempting towards the cafe, the brief interior relief (nice touch, that laptop), and then back outside - oh misery.

Well damn! I want to be able to post a favorite but am so torn. The last one with that walker in motion with the umbrella is fab. Love 2 because if it stood alone I would be in love with the simplicity. But you confuse us with more. #3 the girl is perfect in the composition. Richard, I would enjoy not having to choose between your wonderful photographs. Narrow it down s'il vous plait. Of course that is your choice as the photographer. I bow to your expertise.
