Hmm.....yes. I'm puzzled too. Compelling, or just rubbish? Too dangerous to simply chuck aside?

The thing to think about for me, is why two images? Each individual image would be unremarkable. And why decide on the juxtaposition of two images, one smaller (farther away) than the other. Or maybe that decision is the creative innovation. Would you think of it? Would it work if it wasn't photos of a face, or eyes? And what about the mark of Vishnu? I don't know - my jury is out - but there's something interesting about it

I think he achieved what he wanted... to get Richard and Chuckeroon intrigued! :-)

.. I could get in to trouble about "Mark of Vishnu", not being 100% clear about Hinduism myself...

Is it uncool for me to comment, since this is my photo?

Peter: I can assure you that my intention was not to intrigue Richard and Chuckerroon; I would not be so presumptuous to think that I could.

Regarding the "mark of Vishnu": that is usually a Trident. I drew an exclamation mark.

I had snapped a Polaroid of Trevor many years ago, after drawing an exclamation point on his forehead with lip stick. Sometime later, I scanned the Polaroid and printed two ink jet prints, in two different sizes. Sometime later, I cut the prints up and put them in a box. Sometime later I pulled two pieces out and glued them into my journal. And then sometime later I snapped a picture of that journal page with a digital point and shoot . And then sometime later, I posted that to my blog. This process took 6 years or so.

Here is a link to the original portrait:

I have no idea why I did any of this. Normally no one ever sees my journal, and I do not know why I glue things in it. It is something I just do, and sometimes the pages look interesting to me. Most of the time, they do not.

And I have no idea why I am relaying all this information. Does it help?

Gerry - that clears it up! (I knew I would get into trouble with "The Mark of Vishnu")

So...it's clear....just rubbish but too precious to chuck away. For some reason deep reason, we can never plomb the depths of, so precious that it provokes (is worth) a long exposition. Nice!

So precious, in fact, that I care what you think!
