Globus

Going over old ground, repeating myself, talking to myself even - all signs of advancing years. This photo blog is indulging my photographic whims much more than the visitors who might want to see a different Zurich from my endless morning coffee stops. Of course Ainz's blog is a good resource for that.

Anyway, here's the Globus cafe again - a bit later in the morning, so some sunlight. Various things I like about it, but I won't bore you with the details

What a super photo. I love the repetition - the glasses - so many glasses - glasses and glasses - then the people - and then those reflections of the lamps (i think they are reflections, those squares outside the glass.) It all works so well and makes such a fascinating pattern, not to mention that it's atmospheric and makes me want to order a coffee!

The place looks very clean and neat (we are in Switzerland), quite different different in atmosphere compared to what I would find in my Paris breakfast café. Maybe I prefer the Paris version? ... but your photo is as usual top class!

Do you forget to do up your fly, too? ( I hear that's an old man trait).

And, yeah but..... it's Zurich through your eyes. Not encyclopedia photos!
I learn more about Zurich through your photos than I ever could from postcard photos.

JIlly - you've read my mind

Peter - I know what you mean, but not all Zurich cafes are quite as orderly, although they are all clean - although I don't think I'd go into a dirty cafe

FF - I've forgotten where my flies are...

I glanced at the photo and mumbled to myself "the guy needs to get around a little more!" Then I saw that you agreed with me... :-)

Jilly saved me from writing my thoughts about this fabulous picture. I'll add that it renders beautifully in b&w . . . can't imagine it in color. It's a picture I could spend a lot of time looking at and enjoying. I'm glad you posted it ;)

It's a signature photo. It's got "your" essential elements. It's good to visit the same place and catch its moods.

At least you manage to remember why it is that you went there. Or is that also becoming a problem?

I know about treading the same old grounds again and again. This photo feels both old and new to me, same ingredients in the same pot, but with new spices that make a whole new soup. Brilliant brilliant photo.
Agree with Chuckeroon, it's a signature shot!

I agree with Jilly as well -- gorgeous photo! It's one of those especially well-done images that you don't come upon as often as you would like, but when you do it just grabs your attention. I love it's simplicity and repetition, and how it almost tells a story as well. Bravo!

Thanks everyone for the encouraging response to this shot. Jilly started it off by interpreting what I liked about the shot perfectly. And the comments about it being a "signature shot" from Chucker and Nathalie really made my day

I have realised that in the last few months, since I started using my Macbook for producing a lot of these blog posts, that I have been working and proofing exclusively with the Mac native gamma which means that all the photos certainly look a lot darker on a PC than I intended. I wonder if anyone else has noticed this? For example in this photo there should be quite a bit of detail in the shadows under the tables, but on a PC it doesn't show very well. Also the girl in the middle, her top should be a lot lighter

I did it Richard but I honestly thought it was your choice...

Hi ! Richard !
