Guardian Angel

The french artist Niki de Saint Phalle has a particular place in the hearts of the Swiss, and the Zürchers in particular. She was married to Swiss artist Jean Tinguely, who features elsewhere in this blog, and her sculpture Guardian Angel hangs over commuters as they make their way morning and evening through Zürich Hauptbahnhof. This is a poor photo, but I wanted to post on this subject today. I feel it at least shows the way that the sculpture presides over the concourse and the people

The station is celebrating the 10th anniversary of the sculpture with posters, artworks and memorabilia dispersed around the shops and cafes of the station. I think this is a nice idea - these are the places that also form part of the commuters everyday routine

Geez - you wouldn't want that guardian angel to land on your shoulder, would you?

Although, I love the sentiment of her watching over the people as they go about their day.

I wish I would have known about the artist when I visited this central station.

There are some sculptures too of St Phalle and tingely in Paris closed the Beaubourg Museum. In a pound. And it is a nice place where put these two artist's together. They are well in public space I find.
I saw a big big statue of Nikkie in the hall of the "Opera Bastille in Paris" too. It is great !

However this angel doesn't look especially light and quiet !

Nokkie really made some nice things. It's very nice to see that a railway station bothers about decoration! The 19th century stationswere nicely decorated, but later stations often less. This was pictured on another blog a few weeks ago and was then a quizz: Where is it? The answer was found.
